F*ck cold air intake and exhaust..
There's a point with lower gearing where you lug the engine, so if it's lugging with 3.55 gears and you switch to 4.56 gears and it's no longer lugging, yeah, you should increase fuel economy. Cruising at 60mph might be that lugging spot for your tire/gear/engine combo - but with someone else's setup it might not.

i fully understand the concept of gearing. No need for the bicycle explination... Differential Gear Ratio determines the number of times the drive shaftwill rotate for each turn of the wheels. For example: if you have a 3.73:1 gear ratio, the drive shaft turns 3.73 times for every turn of the wheel.I just cannot understand how an engine turning more rpms (wich is what your doing by changing the gears) can INCREASE your MPG, expecially now that you are "getting on it more". I'm not arguing the fact that you aren't getting better milage...maybe you are. Only you would know that. But i do know this...and engine turning 2800 is gonna burn more gas than one turning 1800.
Really, it just depends on what kind of driving you are doing. If most of your driving is in the city, with alot of stop and go traffic, then maybe smaller gears would improve fuel economy. However, your gear set-up on my truck would suck. I do alot of highway driving. Meaning, the lower the rpms, then the better fuel milage i will get.
No...i have not changed my gears. There is no need. I can lite up the tires from a stand still, just as easy as i can at 20 mph-without the gear swap. I might be tempted to change them just for ****s and grins-if it wasn't going to make my fuel milage worse. But, it will.
My point was just that the CAI and exhaust upgrades wont be utilized to thier full potential until you start doing other upgrades. For example, headers, heads, intake manifold, throttlebody, cams....etc. Just to bolt on some exhaust, and a CAI and expect to feel major power...well, it's not gonna happen. Dont get me wrong, that is a good place to start. Now youjust have to build from there....
You didn't move your powerband. Your engines powerband is still in the same place as it was before. It just takes less effort to turn the wheels.
By the way....not "acting like i have first hand experience"....just my .02....

For '****s and grins', I did an experiment today. More for your educational benefit than my own benefit, but it is what it is. Filled up this morning, drove to school and back, down to reider racing to return my bearing installation kit, and back home. About 20 miles of highway driving, about 20 minutes (idk how many miles) of standstill stop and go traffic, and the rest was fairly easy going city driving.
Now, I just topped off again, and checked my gas milage. Here's a picture:
http://img160.imageshack.us/my.php?i...lage001ya3.jpg
Now, assuming you can manage to look at the information given in the picture without immediately pointing a finger at it and stating that it's wrong, you'll notice that I drove 75.9 miles today. I realize the gas reciept is difficult to read, it wouldn't focus, but the number is 4.672 gallons. Unless my 'math is wrong', I got 16.25 MPG today. That's a fair mix of driving on the highway, in the city, stop and go, and you also have to take into consideration that I'm still flooring the **** out of it almost everywhere, because I can't seem to keep the grin off of my face when I put it to the floor (just got them in on Saturday). That's .25 higher then what I was getting before, when I drove on the highway for a while at 2600-3000 RPM's and I rarely saw anything lighter then half throttle. Aparently my math's not wrong, you're just an idiot and don't know what your talking about.
So, i'm not sure how you justify telling ME what MY gas milage is, but whatever you say boss, lol. So, as much as I appriciate hearing your misinformed and incorrect opinions, Now would be a good time to stop posting in this thread.
Also, just to clarify, I copied that post from above off of another forum becuase I thought someone said it pretty well, but the part about 20+ gas milage on the highway has nothing to do with me. He had 4.56's in his ram with bigger tires, which was why his was higher then mine. I used to get about 15-16, sometimes higher sometimes lower depending on how I drive it. I got 16 and a quarter here while driving it like I stole it (on the highway nonetheless).
First......Im not your bud.
Second.....I seriously doubt you can educate me.
Third.....i wasn't telling you what your gas milage is. If you would read what i said..... maybe you are getting better gas milage.Only you would know that. Alot of other things go into consideration when figuring fuel milage. Like i said....it depends on what the driving conditions are. Different people will see different results.
Fourth.....forums are for posting among other things, opinions. As for mine....i still think your full of it.
And last but certianly not least.....Im not your bud.

First off, its alright dude. I'd be upset and bitter too if I got proven wrong and looked like an idiot infront of a bunch of people. So I'm disregarding the general attitude of all 3 of your posts.
Second, since you're misinformed on the subject, and I posted all the correct information, it's up to you whether or not you let me educate you. Either way, what you thought is wrong, and what I have just proven is right. I expect you to be too stubborn to admit that, but that's your prerogative. I'm just laying out the facts.
Third, So what exactly did you mean, then, when you said " First off....i dont believe that you are getting better fuel milage. I think you are incorrect on that. blah blah, Sorry...im not buying it. Redo your math. "?
Fourth, I did the experiment and provided you with the evidence. This is no longer a matter of opinion, and it's no longer a matter of you saying 'you must have screwed up the math'. You're just wrong. Again, I accept the fact that you're going to be too stubborn to admit this, but it is what it is.
And last but certainly not least, don't be upset that you look stupid right now. And know that every time you post again in this thread trying to defend yoruself when I just posted evidence against it, you're looking even cockier and even stupider. So just take it as a learning experience. Again, i'll reiterate for you. Now would be a good time to stop posting in this thread, champ.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO when ya changed ur gears did ya re calibrate ur speedometer? huh no yea ur wrong...still yea i could drive around in second all say and think im getting better power but there isn't a chance in he!! that I'm getting better mpg

And, you guys can preach all day long about how my gas milage should be worse, but the fact of the matter is it just isn't, lol. It's better.
you cant really be sure unless you drove the same miles in the same conditions before and after the gear swap and on the same exact road. it's common sense, if you go with shorter gears you'll get better mpg in the city and worse on the highway. if you like your gas mileage good for you, i however would be annoyed running almost 3k rpm's going down the highway at 70.

And why all the hate from everyone?
Hey Red9535, one thing I learned about posting, there are people that just "have to be right", it's not that you are wrong, they just can't be wrong and will do everything to prove "they" are right. They sleep better thinking that. It's not about you, it's about them. Good job on the project. Keep up the momentum and drop a line when you get the supercharger bolted in. LOL, you can kiss the 2 mpg's away and then everyone wins.
