Got problem with shifting Automatic!
Hey all, Glad to be here!
I just got a Dakota, and am experiencing problem when I it full throttle. RPM continue to rise and will bounce off limiter and not shift unless I let off gas. When on Cruise Control going up a hill (HWY), Tranny will shift then spike the RPM's, darn thing just won't shift. I heard it could be the Speed Sensor? If so where do I find it, been looking around to find one without magnetic tip????

RE: Got problem with shifting Automatic!
its not the speed sensor.
Useally happens from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd.
What type of tranny do you have? What year Dakota?
I have the 46re tranny, and mine did it to at WOT from 2nd to 3rd it would bounce off 5200rpm unless i let up on the gas or featherd it.
the problem is, you need a tranny service, you need to go to the dealership and order a Govenor Pressure Sensor, Shift Solinoid, Mopar Filter/Gasket and get some ATF+4 Mopar Tranny fluid (sold at walmart) and do a full tranny flush, useally uses about 16qts, install the new filter and sensors and adjust your rear and front bands..
It will solve your problem. The sensors are about 50-60 dollars each, tranny fluid is about 4 or 5 $ a qt, filter gasket (mopar) about 14$... labor if you have it done.. alot 100+$
you can do it yourself, but it would be safer to take it to a mopar shop or somthing, save you the time, and the headace. Adjusting the bands can be a hassel.
