Default cooling fan

I OWN AN "03" DAKOTA 4.7 WITH AN ELECTRIC COOLING FAN AND CLUTCH FAN. THE ELECTRIC FAN SEEMS TO TURN ON WHEN THE A/C OR DEFROSTER IS ON. CAN THE CLUTCH FAN BE REMOVED AND KEEP MY ENGINE COOL WITH STOCK ELECTRIC FAN ONLY? THE CLUTCH FAN ROARS TOO MUCH DURING TAKEOFF. I KNOW THE W/P PULLY IS HELD IN PLACE WITH THE CLUTCH FAN NUT, AND I THINK IT HAS 30MM THREADS. I DON'T WANT A TOGGLE SWITCH FOR THE FAN. HELP!

umm.... so..... if i'm reading this right you have 2 fans already installed. You only need one so you can take out the clutch fan and get back some horsepower. If your Electric fan is already hooked up and kicks on automatically then you dont need a toggle

Just for your information. The 4.7 comes with 2 fans as standard. The electric one serves two perposes and is switched from two sources. Its the engines first stage of cooling, When the coolant reaches a certain level it gets switched on (can't remember exact temp, its in the Workshop Manual). If this doesn't cool the engine sufficiently, the clutch fan engages. It also is controlled by the A/C and comes on as soon as A/C is selected, regardless of engine temp.
The idea of this complicated system is to allow the clutch fan to be used much less. Most of the time, the electric fan can cope, allowing the clutch fan to idle, using very little HP from the engine. BUT the clutch fan is there for a reason. The electric fan can cope with a bit of stop/start driving in heavy traffic (in most conditions) but if you live in one of the hotter states, go off-road or tow you really need the clutch fan as the electric fan can't cope by itself.
If you really want to try removing the clutch fan (without replacing it with an after-market electric conversion kit), I would surgest waiting till Summer is over!

Regards,

Paul

no the stock electric fan wont keep your motor cool enough on hot days, if your fan is geting stuck on, check the clutch...it could be going or gone...you could replace the electric fan with a pusher puller setup, but why!? its not a dragster and its not hurting ur milage that much..
