Supercharger on an R/T??
Well I've been looking into upgrades for my R/T, namely bolt ons i.e. headers, heads, intake manifolds, throttle bodys, etc.. My question is, is this really worth putting say $2000+ into bolt ons, or can my R/T motor handle a supercharger, such as a Vortech or Procharger without doing anything such as forging the internals etc? Thanks for any help guys.
To actually have substantial boost you would have to get the motor built. Your R/T is pretty much the same as my SLT. You may (keyword may) have different heads and a slight performance tune on the PCM that's about the only difference as far as the engine performance goes. If you really want to do it build it otherwise you will not want to go above 8 PSI or so.
your r/t is totally different then the stock 360. go to www.allpar.com and they break down the motors. you have better heads, better journals, better intake. the r/t/ motor is made to be beat straight from the factory.or go to www.krcperformance.com and they have write ups and dyno shts for the 360 r/t. this is were i bought my cam kit from and it was worth it
I looked on that site and did not see what your referring to... maybe you can cut & paste the text here...
from what I know, the only difference in the r/tare the cam specs. the heads are the same as the non-r/t motors and are prone to cracking...
the r/t heads are different than the normal magnum heads. also worth mentioning is the new HD heads when fitted with the 2.02 valves out flow the r/t's.

r/t's had better timing, exhuast, pcm tune, and stock forged rods, also unless your talking about the 4.7 They naver made an SLT 5.9 unless it was the Quad Cam.. the CC and SC you could only get the 360 in the R/T package.. but like i said the Quad Cab came with a 5.9 but not the same HP as the R/T Tuned 360.. the stock 360 for an r/t was 250hp/344tq at crank. I think the SLT 5.9 QC was 240 but im not to sure on that, i do know the r/t 5.9 had more power..
but.. my friend pro charged his r/t with a stock 360 and blew a rod in 1 week, running 8psi
so.. umm you will need work

Well what all would I need so I wouldnt do things like that if i had a supercharger on my R/T? Like forged crank, pistons? anything of that nature? thanks for the help guys

If I remember correctly when I was researching my D before buying it the 360 came with 245 hp at the crank and I don't remember the torque numbers but they were slightly higher than that. What they did with the D's with the r/t package(which I assumed was the same with Daks since it is all the same platform) was different heads (in earlier model years) and a more aggressive tune. other than that you were looking at larger gearing, lower ride height, bilsteins from the factory, and larger wheels. I think in the 01 and later models they didn't do a damn thing to the engine just the more aggressive tune. Oh and the R/T D is AWD which I know is not the case with the Dak.
I have stock internals and run 10 PSI all day long. Never a problem.
Will I have a problem eventually? Probably, but as long as your A/F is right, and your timing is right. You should not have a problem at all. And even 6-8PSI is quite a bit. You can definatly feel it. Hell, you can even feel 1 PSI on these motors.
If your friend broke a rod, it was probably ready to break already or had a defect.
