Default Trans Temp light

I have an 04' 4X4 Quad Cab and the Trans Temp light keeps comes on every day now during normal(no towing etc) conditions while driving to/from work. Manual simply says to pull over, put truck in "N" and rev at normal or above normal rpms until the light goes out. I don't know if I'm at risk of making if worse if I keep on driving.

Anybody else have this issue? If so, what was done to fix it? Any help appreciated.

Thanks - Tony

do what the manual says, from what i understand you do fast idle * between 1200-1500 rpms* in neutral because the torque converter will recieve fluid from reverse down, the transmission fluid pump shuts off in park, and you want the fluid to circulate through the transmission to cool it down so it can circulate through the cooler, i suggest you drive the truck with overdrive off, check your tranny fluid with it running in neutral on level ground, smell if its burnt or not and look for signs of metal shavings, paarticles ok, small flakes that catch your attention then yea there sounds like theres a problem, how does she shift when the light isnt on?... reason im asking is if your cooler is clogged, the transmission wont shift properly since it will be starved of fluid, if could also simply be the cooler is covered in dirt on the outside, pop the hood, take a hose to your radiator and wash it down

Check your fluid level before any of this. Remember to check it at operating temp in neutral...
