Hi guys!
I'm new to the forum. I have an 04 Dak 2wd, auto, 4.7 ltr. V-8. I am having a gremlin issue with the electrical system.
A few months back, the battery died right out of the blue. It was still under warranty so I had the dealer take care of it. They ran a diagnostic and determined it was the battery and they replaced it. The offical cause for the battery failure? (are you sitting down?)
"....the fuel injectors are dirty which in turn over works the alternator which in turn drains the battery". Of course, a $300.00 cleaning of the injectors was recommended. I didn't fall for that.
About six weeks ago, I was sitting with the engine off for a while and listening to the radio. When I went to start the engine, I got nothing but a high speed clicking noise. On the third try it started sluggishly.
Then two weeks ago, it happened again. The dealership wanted $50.00 to diagnose it and replace the battery again, if necessary. With the warranty expired and no desire to hear their crap, I decided to take it to Sears and buy a battery. The shop at Sears ran a system check and found nothing wrong! They offered (of course) to sell me a battery, but they really didn't see a need for it. I grabbed a 750 amp jump starter for $40.00 as a lifeline to keep on board and went home scratching my head.
This week, my "lifeline" is paying for itself! Almost everytime I go anywhere I feel like I am driving an old hand crank Model -T!
Turn the key, hear the clicks, pop the hood, jump the battery, and head down the road! I'm doing it in my sleep!!!
Last night I pulled the positive cable off of the battery with the enging running and the engine shut down instantly.
Figuringit was thealternator, I pulledit andhad it bench tested - it passed.
I'm scratching my head again, guys!
Is it my battery?
Is it my ECU?
If it is my ECU, where is it and what does it look like? Can I install it myself or do I need a laptop program and an interface cable?
HELP! This is getting old!
Any suggestions short of driving off of a bridge would be great!
Thanks,
Matt in South Florida
