So i know this a pretty dumb question. But im going to ask it anyways. Tried looking it up and could fine nothing. What is red line on the dakota's? i got a 99 with a 5.2. Only mods are exhaust, home made cold air intake and autolite plugs. Put i dont think the plugs would count as a major mod. It says red line is 4600 or 4700. but could you go higher without messing anything up?

thanks

PS Happy Canada Day

RE: Red line?
You can raise your rev limiter using an aftermarket programmer such as hypertech or superchips.

RE: Red line?
No reason to go to redline. Power starts to drop off before redline.

Redlines are put in for a reason. Go over it it may not hurt it right away, but repeatedly will destroy the motor.

BTW the limiter will kick in before you get that far anyways.

RE: Red line?
my rev limit must of been broke when I had the 3.9 in my 98 Dak, it has hit 5500 a couple of times on wet pavement. Engine ran like crap for a day or so the few times i did, but overall was ok. Oh....but then I did spin a cam bearing one day on the interstate 2 months ago...but engine was 8 years old with MANY miles.

RE: Red line?
No i was just wondering what it was at, since the the RPM only goes up to 6 grand. I will be buying a Superchip program soon thou, any other brands out there that can compeat with superchip?

RE: Red line?
I would stick with superchips. it has the most options and you can view/erase codes with it too
