Sway Bar Bushing for 4wd Dak!?!
So searching here and another Dakota forum, I've gotten some differing information. I have an '00 Club Cab 4wd and I just brought the truck in for "creaking sounds" when going over bumps while making a turn, hoping it would be covered under my warranty. The dealer said that my sway bar bushings were kind of oblong and needed to be replaced and that was not covered. Well I want to replace them with polyurethane energy or prothane bushings. Buth Summit and Suspension.com only list Dakota 2wd bushings and Energy said that they do not make bushings for the 4wd Dakota.
Does anybody have any definitive information on which polyurethane bushing I should get for my front sway bar?
Thanks!

I have the same problems (minus the turning) mainly after its been sitting for the night and going slow over speed bumps. I goes away after a few minutes of driving. Not a big deal to me, just annoying. Let me know if you find anything out.

Can't help with the polyeurathane bushing p/n's but here is my 2 cents. I just did the front bushings on my 2000, 4x4, 5.9 Durango. I used the OEM equivalent from NAPA. Cost me about $25 complete for all 4 bushings. My thoughts were myoriginals lasted over100,000 miles, and if I get another 100K out of these I'm good to go.Also food for thought, I've seen on other sites that the poly's do have atendency to squeak, especially the red ones.
You also might want to just call Summit or whomever and ask about your particular application.

I cured the groan on mine by replacing the two bushings. They were about $7 each from the dealer. That lasted about 30k miles before squeaking again, so I popped them out and regreased them. Bang. Done. They'll be fine for another 30k. I'd say if the bushings aren't shot, yank them out and regrease them pronto! they're really easy to do, just a couple of bolts.
Piece of cake to install. I followed these instructions posted by one of the site members. Only difference is I didn't put her up on ramps. Just did it on the ground. It took me about an hour to do it all. If link don't work search for "sway bar bushing" in 2nd gen Dak section. Author was GeeTeeOhh.

Awesome. I saw that thread yesterday and I hoped it would be the same. The dealer said that the bushings were oblonged and needed to be replaced. I'll have to get under there and check it out myself, but if I'm taking it off, the parts are so cheap I might as well just replaced them.
Thanks all!

swaping the bushings for urethane ones is an excellent upgrade... you can usually find them for under $30 bux and you may have the option of having them greaseable. I swapped them on my wifes old 2002 dak and used 33mm bushings. If you still want them, find out how thick your bar is and call summit racing.
I just got a set for my 2005 ram and will be putting them on tomorrow, they are a simple install...

Any advice on installing would be great.
