I had the same thing on my 03 QC 4x2 4.7l V8. I found two rubber hoses that were cracked, quite severely on mine, that I replaced. I'll tell you where I looked on my 4.7l, not sure if it's the same for the V6. One hose connected to the throttle body on the drivers side. Right where the hose slipped over the connector was cracked all the way around. That hose runs under the fuse box and to a sensor right next to the battery. I replaced the whole hose, but found out later that you can pull the hose off and just cut off the bad part and put it back on. There should be enough slack. The other hose I replaced went to the same sensor and was located just above the exhaust manifold on the drivers side. On my engine, these hoses were zip tied together. I can only assume that they cracked from being near the engine heat and dried out. It only cost a few bucks to buy the hose, don't remember the size right now, it took maybe 15 minutes to fix it. Hope that helps.
Also check the hoses running to the charcoal box under the bed, near the gas cap area. There are two hoses running in/out. Make sure they have not become rotted out/loose.
ok thanks i will tell him to check that and let you know what comes up as the problem, if we figure it out thanks, and im still open to more ideas if anybody has them
actually we found the problem, it was a cracked hose going into the evap solenoid which we just cut back and stuck together again, fixed . . . for now
