Default Rough Idle

2003 QC 4x4 4.7 72,000
At stops the idle is rough and at times sounds like it's close to stalling but doesn't. Has new plugs in it. I know this could be a number of things but I was curious if this particular vehicle is prone to having this issue and what the cause more than likely is.

Thanks in advance.

Is it throwing any codes?

If not, try the cheap and easy stuff first. I had a problem with idle surging in my '01 4.7L and I did the following to fix it:
- Cleaned fuel injectors with a can of STP fuel injector cleaner added to a tank of gas
- Removed and thoroughly cleaned the throttle body and ports

Let us know if that helps.

Here are a couple links that helped me on the TB cleaning...
http://www.craigcentral.com/durango/tb.asp and http://www.v8performance.com/tipsandtricks.htm#CleanTB
Pretty simple procedure, really.
Also, something that helped smooth the idle on mine, was to replace the PCV valve. And, on that subject, when I went to install the new one, it would go in the hole, but I was not able to turn it to lock. I got a flashlight and looked down the tube, and the hole was partially blocked with something. WTF. I took the baffle out of the filler tube, and using my air wand, blew two chunks of carbon out of the tube. I guess the valve had never been changed, and the junk had just built up over the years. The crapmust have dislodged when I cranked the old one out.

Mine does the same thing infrequently, seems like maybe 1 in 60 redlights. Still has never stalled and no codes. Idling smooth then all of a sudden drops to like 400 rpm gets rough then back to 500 and alittle rough. I will have to remember to do the TB and PCV.

Well I replaced the pcv valve and ran some fuel cleaner through and that has helped. Getting the pcv valave off was a ***** of a job. Now on to the transmission. It has been kind of slow to shift and some times seems to shift a bit strange almost like it's hesitating. Checked the fluid and it was over filled. Hopefully a fluid and filter change with the correct amount of fluid will help.
Thanks again for the suggestions.
