Default air intake question

anyone know the real differencebetween air intake systems? Ive been looking at an air raid system for my 98 3.9. roughly 200 bucks. On ebay, there are some for as low as 20-30 bucks. They also have the stainless flow tube and reusable filter. I dont think they come with the clean/oiling kit(25 bucks)What exactly are we paying for with the air aid besides the name?

Apparantly building your own custom design akin to the current aftermatket designs is exceptionally easy. Considering how simplistic all of the designs I've seen so far for aftermarket intakes look, I'd say design your own

get 3 inch pvc pipe with a 90 degree bend. thats basically all the airaid is. then just get a k&n filter. i have the airaid on my 2001, all it really does is make the engine sound a little louder and make a whistling noise.

The difference in the cheap intakes you see for $30 and a name-brand intake is the material & design. Some use heat-resistant aluminum (AEM) that will refect heat much more than the cheap intakes that actually hold heat. The designcomes in because you are trying to get as much air efficiently to engine as possible. AEM intake systems use 4" tubing all the way form the filter to the throttle body and even replaces the factory 3" airhat. Obviously 4" of airflow will provide more air (power) than 3".

Do you have a picture of your CAI? I'd like to see it. So far all the other designs I've seen really let me down, espescially since they actually wind up pulling air from CLOSER to the exhaust manifold.

Will the same AEM intake you have work on a 3.9?
