Default starting problem

I have a 97 dakota, have had an intermittent problem starting it. It just clicks when starting it cold, it clicks anywhere from 3-10 times then turns over. Of course won't do it when it's at the garage. Any suggestions? The garage says a bad starter usually doesn't do this when it is cold starting.

I would look at your battery first. Make sure it is holding a charge.

check the connections to the battery, have the battery load tested or just replace it. if everything looks normal, pull the starter then have it tested or do it yourself..... it should spin hard enough to where it wants to fly out of your hand. if it doesnt, then its probably time for a new one.
