Default Engine rpm

Just got a 99 5.2 5 spd dakota. When shiftingfrom gear togear, the engine rpm doesn't fall back very quickly in between shifts. I wind up shifting very slowly to allow the rpms to drop enough so I get a smoother shift. Could the IAC be causing this problem?
thanks.

I removed the IAC, checked the "O" ring and cleaned the throttle body and IAC. Seems a little better but still not right.

it could be you just have to get used to it when i first got mine i was all paranoid that something was wrong with it and there actually was the ecm and tps were bad from when they cleaned teh engine but after that it was still what i thought wasn't normal but now that i've been driving it for 5000 miles and im used to it it seems alot more normal to me now and i can shift a lot more smoothly
