I just picked up a Reg cab short box Dakota with the 4.7l and 5 spd with 4x4. I wanted to run some new exhaust but it seems tight with the fuel tank on the drivers side. I'm sure someone has done it. If not, what size pipe and muffler should I use to do a single exhaust.

 

The stock exhaust is made out of s.s. I would just recommend changing out the muffler only. I am taking my truck to the muffler shop thursday and I'm getting a dynomax superturbo muffler installed 2.5" SI/2.5" SO. The reason I am going with this choice is I do not want it much louder than stock. I know it will change the sound of my exhaust but not too much. FLowmaster is another muffler other members have installed on their's, but flowmaster are difinetly louder than the dynomax. Eric.
