I have a 98 Dakota and the clear coat is peeling off the sides of bed. Is this a common problem, paint looks great everywhere else and looks original.

i have noticed it alot on green and black trucks but i dont think theres a recall. for any recall questions you can always run your VIN thru a check. i used to use alldata or you can check this site: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...callsearch.cfm

 

Me and my buddy both have a 99 that is Solar Yellow, and both have clear coat peeling. Mine was one area on top of the door, but his is all over. Must be some defect in the clear they used.

 

they wont recall the paint on these old of trucks.

if you keep up on washing and waxing regularly it wouldnt happen as much

 

a buddy of mine said that this happens every couple of years with car manufacturers. the EPA or some other org changes the rules for paint or how its applied and for the next few years certain colors dont work right. that i can remember chevy had the same problem in the early 90's on white pickups and fiero's did it in the mid 80's with certain colors. im not that old so im sure theres other instances
