01 Front Left Grinding....
Hey guys, long time reader... first time poster ( i think).
Anyways, forthe past few days i've been hearing and feeling a terrible grinding (metal on metal) noise from the front left wheel.
I had all my brakes, calipers, rotors, and drums done about 3-4 weeks ago so i'm pretty sure its none of that.
When i turn Right... and the front left shock compresses the noise gets considerebly louder. When i turn left it gets less loud.
My guess is a wheel bearing... But i'm not sure. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I will most likely do the work myself being that i am in an automotive program (GM-ASEP) yeah i know its GM but hey... Its the experience that counts.
Thanks Again...
Sean
P.S.
I've already searched.. .but haven't found too many with my exact symptoms.
Its a 2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab

ur correct ya have a shot wheel bearing! its a vibrating kinda noise rite? jack the truck up put ur hands on the top and bottom of the tire is there a bit f play also does the sound change at different speeds, may even seem to go away at higher speeds
how many miles ya got on the truck, ever get ice where you live or go off road allot?
if its shot id recommend doing both sides, yea its a bit more cash but while ya got everything out may as well do a bit of preventative work instead of waiting..

Its got 109k on it now.
It was located on Indian Lake New York before me... so it definately got some ice, rain, water damage. And i've recently taken it off roading a few times. Yeahi definatley think its the wheel bearing. Thanks for your help...
Can i just replace the wheel bearing? or do i have to replace the whole hub with it?

They have a wheel bearing assembly that replaces everything. Price ranges anywhere from $90-$230 depending on brand and where you get it from. Make sure you know if you have ABS in the front or not when you purchase it. I would also check your calipers and make sure none of themare touching your rim. I had my bolts strip out and had to get them retapped to fix the problem.
Yeah i figured. I foundit on ebay for 95$ shipped. Not too sure about the quality though. It is for the 4wd w/ ABS.
Brand new w/ warranty.
Whats the best prices any of you guys know... where i wouldn't have to wait 2-3 days to get the part... if not longer.

my truck made a grinding noise after doin a brake job and it turned out to be the dust shield was hitting the rotors. so I just took them off.
but when I replaced my wheelbearing I went with moog ones that have lifetime warranty on them. I think they were around $200 each. that was a while ago.
