Can anyone help me??
For the 4th time in 10 months my service engine soon light has came on and again it's the same code. It shows a 300 code- a random or multiple cylinder misfire. I admit I don't know a great deal about automotives but this doesn't seem normal to me. I have checked for recalls and such and haven't found any. So can anyone out there shed some light on this problem? Thanks!!

Right out of Ye Olde 2004 Dakota Factory Service Manual:
Code 300 possibilities
Disregard the spelling errors here; I just copied and pasted from the CD version of the manual.
---------
INTERMITTENT MISFIRE
(A142) ASD RELAY OUPUT CIRCUIT
IGNITION COIL
COIL CONTROL CIRCUIT
SPARK PLUG
FUEL PRESSURE
FUEL PUMP INLET STRAINER PLUGGED
RESTRICTED FUEL SUPPLY LINE
FUEL PUMP MODULE
FUEL INJECTOR
INJECTOR CONTROL CIRCUIT
PCM
---------
Yeah. That really narrows it down.
Or this:
---------
"Gasoline sold outside of California is permitted to have higher sulfur levels which may affect the performance of the vehicle's catalytic converter. This may cause the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL), Check Engine or Service Engine Soon light to illuminate. We recommend that you try a different brand of unleaded gasoline having lower sulfur to determine if the problem is fuel related prior to returning your vehicle to an authorized dealer for service."
---------
Meanwhile, your SERVICE ENGINE light is still lit up, and your warranty is ticking away (they don't make money on warranty work).
I know this applies to the catalytic converter, but maybe changing to a different brand of gasoline might be a place to start.
Don't buy gas that doesn't have a chain of custody (that you don't know where it's been).
By that I mean the gas delivery tanker should have the same name as the brand of gasoline.
Here in the Northwest, the only gas I buy is Chevron, even though it's a higher priced gas.
I've seen the local Shell, Mobil, Exxon, 76, etc all get their gas delivered in trucks that don't have their respective names on them, and Costco gas has so much alcohol in it, it doesn't have the color or smell of normal gasoline.
Go for QUALITY, my friend. Always.
