canadians
Hi there, got a quick question for you canadians out there. I live in bc and have been looking at all those mopar oem parts dealers that are online in the states. They have great prices on dealership parts and am wondering if any of you have purchased anything from them and is it worth it after duty, tax and shipping? I am looking at a fan clutch for a cherokee that costs $230 (can) at my local dealer and can get it online for $109 (us) I was also looking at a backup lamp switch for a manual trannied dakota that the dealer wants $40 for and online can get it for $5 (thats just nuts!!! boy are we getting screwed[:@]). I've been looking at this place in particular http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=213674 and mopar.biz as well as some others. Any input would be great especially if you can recommend a good site to do business with

I buy tons of stuff (for the truck, bike, electronics, cloths, tools, etc.) from the US and have had very few issues. For the truck have used www.truckaddons.com, www.autotrucktoys.com,www.pickuptruckspecialities.com andof course www.ebay.com
Especially now with the dollar being so strong it simply doesn't make sense to buy locally until the Canadian retailers get their **** together, prices in line and start to carry more product. I just purchased a set of Hella DynaviewEvo2 from www.yellowandbluelighting.com for $384USD. The local shysters wanted $640CAD......I think not![>:][sm=bs.gif][sm=forgetit.gif][sm=icon_beat.gif][sm=shootshoot.gif][sm=signs006.gif][sm=smiley21.gif][sm=smiley26.gif][sm=smiley35.gif][sm=smiley35.gif][sm=smiley35.gif][sm=smiley7.gif]
The only thing you do need to keep in mind is that Canada Post has fairly restrictive policies when it comes to shipping what they view has hazardous goods which for them means pretty much every automotive fluid including oil, additives, sealants, etc. But for everything else you're cool to ship though post or most couriers. If you do go the courier route try for FedEx or DHL and not UPS. FedEx and DHL will let you clear your product yourself through the CBSA (customs) and that saves you ~$10-$20 on brokerage fees where UPS forces you to use their service and have brutal rates.
Oh, the other thing is if you're in the lower mainland check out getting a post office box in Point Roberts. That way if you find someone who doesn't ship to Canada (and I don't know why some companies are still ****** with that since it isn't that onerous of a process) you can have them send it there. 30 min drive from DT Vancouver and you can fill up with some cheap gas

there is also no duty on car/truck parts as long as they are made in the USA autos and parts are part of NAFTA. So you only pay taxes and shipping. Also as Teva_feet says DON"T USE UPS they charge a custom broker fee even on duty free stuff. It's just a money grab for them. It's never under $49.00 it seems

just came across these guys and am impressed with their prices.....not a huge selection but I called on a couple of different parts and they either had it in stock (Calgary) or if they didn't delivery would only be a couple of days
