AC Compressor
New to the threads guys, today I was helping my buddy install a K&N FIPK on his 2000 Dakota SLT 4.7, and i walked away for a second and told him to loosen a bolt for a bracket near the ac compressor. He accidently loosend the wrong bolt on the ac compressor and some R-134a refrigerant spewing came out, he knew something was wrong right away, so he tightened it back up and told me about. It looks like he only lost a little bit of refrierant, and I think he possibly blew a seal and lost some pressure in his ac system. Is it something to worry about or not?
Depends on how much he lost? What exactly do you mean when you say you think he blew a seal? If a seal is blown you're gonna lose all the gas. Sounds like he loosened a bolt on the compressor and lost some gas through a gasket. If it's just a short blast and he tightened it back up again you should be fine. A more significant amount will effect cooling. The system holds very little to begin with. You might want to leave it alone till warm weather. At that time get somebody to throw a set of gauges on and have it checked. Good Luck!
-first off what bolt did he lossen exactly?? You can easily check to see if its still leacking if you had a refrigerant leack detector or new some 1 in the trade cuz they would 90 percnet of the time have 1. Also squirt a soapy mix of water and high concentration soap in the area he lossend and look for bubbles and listen for hissing. Also the system is criticaly charged so if it was anymore then a quick blow you might wana top her off. Youl no if its leacking soon enought when your ac does not cool or your defroster isnt working properly. I thinck your safe on the blown gasket thought but we will see.
