Default crank sensor help

dose any one know if where the crank sensor goes between the bellhouseing and the block, if there is some kinda bushing or ruber that gose there to hold the sensor in place. when i took mine out i noticed that there is some kinda rubber in there, or grease or something. i couldent tell because it has never been removed, and i couldent tell if it was decayed rubber or really dirty grease. any info will help thanks
