Default Brake Lights not working

Hey Guys, this is my first post so be gentle. I have a 2001 Dakota that I have had a few minor problems with, The new one this week has me boggled.
The brake lights quit working. I have checked the bulbs, fuses and relays and they all are good. The last thing I checked was the switch on the brake pedal. I am unsure on how to check this, what the proper name of this part and if it can go bad...? and how much it might cost. Has anyone had this problem or heard of this part actinging up???
Any help would be greatly apprieciated. Thank you in advance,
Bruce

Do your turn signals work in the back?

Moe in Wichita KS. all the signials that go tothe back go through the turn signal switch under the steering wheel. have some one stand in the back while you step on the break pedle and move the turn signel lever. also on on some mopars if the horn doesnt work it means the steering colunm needs a ground strap.

DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING - BRAKE LAMP
SWITCH
The brake lamp switch can be tested with an ohmmeter.
The ohmmeter is used to check continuity
between the pin terminals
SWITCH CIRCUIT IDENTIFICATION
² Terminals 1 and 2: brake lamp circuit
² Terminals 3 and 4: RWAL/ABS module and Powertrain
Control Module (PCM) circuit
² Terminals 5 and 6: speed control circuit
SWITCH CONTINUITY TEST
NOTE: Disconnect switch harness before testing
switch continuity.
With switch plunger extended, attach test leads to
pins 1 and 2. Replace switch if meter indicates no
continuity.
With switch plunger retracted, attach test leads to
pins 3 and 4. Replace switch if meter indicates no
continuity
With switch plunger retracted, attach test leads to
pins 5 and 6. Replace switch if meter indicates no
continuity.
