Poor Gas Mileage- 4.7 V8 2WD
I have a 04 4.7 Quad Cab auto and stock was getting 12-14 city 17-18 hwy did the Flowmaster 40 muffler and AirAid CAI kit and went to 14-16 city 19-22 hwy so once you get the o2 sensor fixed you might want to think about these upgrades that do not break the bank....both done for under $250.00

biggest thing about these trucks are the spark plugs. you need to go with the factory plug or the autolite 3923. if there are any type of platnum plug it wont run right. something about dodge motors. i put a plat plug in my 05 4.7 and lost 45/50 miles to a tank of gas. went with the autolite 3923 and it shot back up. i get about 380 miles to a tank of gas and the best was near 425. i always use the cruise on the highway 65/70 miles per hour and it makes a big diff.

your using the 3923's on a 4.7 motor??? the 3923's are the way to go for 3.9/5.2/5.9 motors but I've never heard of anyone using them on a 4.7
Actually- thats what i use on my 4.7 and they work great...

Thanks for the input. I'm going to check the plugs and replace the O2 sensor.
Very good point Sixtysix.....i didn't think about that for some reason. You are absolutly correct though, a fan clutch that is not working properly will kill your power and fuel milage.
NiDakota- i know this may sound rediculous, but you might also check your tire pressure. You would be suprized at how under-inflated tires can kill your fuel milage.

My parts store tells me there ara 4 , o2 sensors on the 01 dakota, two up stream and 2 down, at 70.oo a piece.do the math,i cant aford that ,where is the help sec.so i can find out how to check them first!
go to the auto parts store and ask them to scan it, usually a bad O2 will come up in a scan. a $45 drop in filter is a waste if your going to spend the money get an air intake there cheap
yank the fronto2's out and clean them...use CRC electronic Component cleaner and spray the crap out of the exhaust stream openings. if they are able to be saved, this is the cheepest way to improvethe o2's performance. I've cleaned mine on 3 cars/trucks and had great results each time. If the o2 is not dead, this will help. the cleaner can be found at any auto parts store. for a pic of the can,go look in the DIY TPS sensor cleaning thread and you'll find one.
