Check your oil levels. Tranny, engine, coolant. Maybe time for a tranny flush/change of filter so on.

can a low tranny fluid level actually cause the truck to stall?I was going to change the crankshaft position sensornext (which was another suggestion I've heard). Is this a possibility?

Could, but probably wouldn't if it's in park (The fluid doesn't move.) Why in cold versus warm i don't know.
