Default NV3500 1st to 2nd

I'm not really worrying about this i feel its just the nature of the beast but just curious as to how others tranny's act. Sometimes when i shift from 1st to 2nd it feels like i'm pulling the whole tranny back witht he shifter into second gear don't really know how to explain it. it just seems like everything in the case or something is shifting back when i shift and its only sometimes. I'm getting the hurst shifter for christmas or around that time and hopefully that will fix it all together but i'm just curious for some other opinions.

I dont know but on my 88 5 speed it feels like shifting from first to second is like pulling the whole transmission through the floorboard. By the way does anyone know what the actual model of a manual transmission on an 88 dakota paired with a 3.9 pre-mag is called?
