Default Power Steering Problem

I have a 2000 dak with the 4.7 2wd. I am having a problem with excesive whine from the power steering pump when the truck gets warmed up. my question is that is there any other reason that is cheaper and easier to fix this problem or is it simply that it is going bad and the whole pump needs replaced?

thanks in advance
Matt

That sounds like a pump going bad personally. Is the fluid level correct? Have you ever let the fluid level fall below recemmended tolerances?

I have a 2003 4.7, 2WD. Mine does the same thing. Has never been low, and never lost a drop. I just ignore it.....and turn up the music- then the sound of the pump goes away! lol.

have you flushed the power steering system at all? I suggest it if you havent. like any other fluid, it gets dirty and should be swapped out.

I have. Can fluid that's just a little dirty cause a noisy pump??? I could see it if it was super dirty and had foreign debris floating around in it.
