03 Dakota broken chassis bolt
Broke one of the chassis to frame bolts in my 2003 dakota. It snapped off in the chassis. Anyone have a good fix too remove it. My dealer was giving me some crap they have to cut the floor board and do some welding, cost 2-300. I looked and it looks like it could be just tapped and drilled out. Any ideas?

They make screw and bolt extractors for this. Not sure how big the extractors go so don't know if it would work for sure. But you drill a hole in the stuck bolt and put the extractor in the drilled hole and turn the counter clockwise. The idea is the extractor grabs in the hole sidesand removes the screw or bolt. The kind I used was called an EZ out and use to work really well. Of course most of my use was with smaller screws and bolts. But a thought.
Cutting and welding sounds more like a last resort to me.

ezouts work great, i use them at work all the time. if you can get to the bolt with a drill and a screwdriver you should be able toget it out. first, get a center punch and punch the broken off bolt dead center. then get the right size bit and drill a hole in it... it doesnt have to be too far down. then you get the right size extractor for that bit and turn it out.... dealers will find any way they can to screw you.

hi moe in wichita kansas
the above advise sounds real good. but be sure and get a factory bolt. retap the thds then check that the bolt head touchs before the thds bottom out. be sure and use anti-sieze compound on the thds. a2001cab mnt bolt torques to 60 ft lbs good luck
