Default 3rd Gen Engine

I was wondering if it would be possible to put the 4.7 from the 3rd gen in our truck. Would it be a direct fit or would fabrication be needed? I really like the idea of having 4 cylinder gas mileage at cruising and 8 cylinder power when needed. Thanks

lots of electronics to swap over as well. Im sure it could be done but it would be very expensive

Yeah, I agree. If you want to go V8 go 5.2/5.9. Sure the mileage is not as good as with a 4.7 but the small difference is not a big deal when you consider how difficult a 4.7 swap would be.

i have the 4.7 right now, but i liked the features the 3rd gen had. like the cylinders switching on and off and the added horsepower over what i have now. One reason also i was thinking about this swap is because I haven't found many options for performance parts on my 2nd gen 4.7

Not much in the new one either, You will see pref on yours before the 3rd gen, but Im sure you could swap in the 4.7 fairly easy. But why not take the challenge do a 5.7l All you need is a wiring harness, cpu and a 2000 + dash. I looked into it but My dakota is a v6 3.9, and not worth while for me. If I could do a drop I would do a 5.2 or 5.9l. But a 5.7 would be cool, one of the best engines out there... lol.

ummm...... the 4.7's dont have MDS..... only the hemi's do. and your milage wont be worth the cost of an engine swap.

and theres more options for performance parts for your 4.7 then the gen3 4.7. I think all they have is the jet chip.
