I have a 2000 4.7 L Dakota that needs a new thermostat . And it ain't like they used to be . Is it hidden behind the alternator or ?
The last thermostat I bought was only about $ 5 and was a 5 minute job . This one cost $21 and I have spent 15 minutes looking for the thermostat housing ?????????????????????????????????????????????
I am starting to dislike Dodge

 

follow the top radiator hose and find where it goes into the motor.

 

arent they on the bottom for the 4.7

 

Yeah, the thermostat is actually in the lower hose instead of the upper hose. The housing is located behind and below the belt tensioner.

The thermostat housing is plastic, and the two "little" bolts can be tempermental. Treat them nice or you will break them off.
