I had one, with a real K&N, but it heated up too fast, and the air it drew in was coming from the motor. Unlike the k&n brand, ebay intakes don't come with a cruise control relocation bracket. To be honest, gains aren't that big from what i've read around the forum. I went back to factory with a drop-in, i know now i'm drawing cold air from the fender opening.

Holy ****. I leave and come back home and check the forums and there's atleast 6 postings. Thanks for all the help and input. To be honest I had the misconception that having duals gives you a louder exhaust. Guess I was wrong. I just think that the conecpt of having duals out the back or side is alot better then just the single pipe out the side. I've seen mufflers with the 2 holes connecting it to go into duals. I just want the truck to sound mean. It sounds good at idle, and when the pedal is to the floor. But once the pedal is off, it sounds like crap. I've read all your reccomendations for the muffler type, and correct me if im wrong, but if I want it to sound loud and mean, I would get the flowmaster 40 series? As for getting the duals put on and the pipes bent, I can get that done for really cheap ( I know a muffler shop owner lucky me). Now when I think of it, if you get true duals, the only person thats going to know that their "True Duals" is you really. Unless people look underneath your vehicle. As for the cat being gutted. Doesn't that affectemmisions of the vehicle? Im almost positive it gives you more hp, could be wrong.

I really appreciate all the help you guys have given me. All this definetly had an impact on the type of muffler im going with, and the setup.

The 40 series is a great choice, though i'm only running a single out. Which in my opinion isn't loud enough on my v6. But if you're running true duals, it should be perfect. They have a sweet rumble, perfect sounding.

Anyways good luck with exhaust work, it definently helps to know someone.

On the CAI go with AirAid or K&N it is worth the cost and will last the life of the truck, I have had both and was very happy with them, got better gas mileage and then doing the muffler and freeflow cats you will get even more power and mpg unless you have a lead foot then it does just the opisite.

I've been reading and watching all of these messages about exhausts and cai's, my thinking is to just replace the stock muffler with a free flowing one and keep all of the rest of the stock pipes. I looking for a gain in performance and mpg's ,not a lot of noise, does anyone know exactly which flowmaster or magnaflow part numbers would be a direct replacement, I've looked thru both of their sites and can't seem to come up with a number. The truck is 2004 QC 4wd 4.7 motor.
It seems to me from what Ive readthat there is not a whole lot to be gained by a CAI as opposed to just a good drop in filter like a K&N, so that will be the way to go for me.

Thanks for all the advise that has been contributed to this forum by all of you, it makes life easy when you have such vast array of knowledge at you diposal.

thanks Ron

ps, I have tried the search for muffler part numbers but was not able to find help.

thanks again

i got a muffler back sytem off of ebay for $200.this included a flowmaster 40 series single in/dual out muffler, extension pipe(which i did not use,i have a regular cab)2 tailpipes and 2 angle cut chrome tips to run out the rear of the truck.i really didn't think much of a v6 with a louder muffler, but this sounds awesome.i also have a twink&n cone filter intakeatop the throttle body.the truck has the stock 3.7 v6 and 5 speed manual tranny.IF ican keep my foot outof the engine,i can average 24 mpg on the highway.tough to do because i love the way she talks now.
