Default Trans slipping

I read a ton of threads on trans slipping so figured I would throw this out there. My wife has a 99 Dakota 4wd 318ci w/91k miles that would slip from 2nd to 3rd. Drained trans fluid and adjusted both bands replaced filter and refilled w/mopar ATF4. test drove and shifted like it should. Used to slam into reverse on inclined driveway even though she always uses her parking brake=doesn't slam anymore. She took it to work next day and said it still slips same spot it always does, right after she leaves about 6 houses away. I drove it and figured out it only does it when trucks is cold=1st shift of 2nd to 3rd maybe the 2nd one, then it's fine. Added some Lucas oil Trans additive and no problems. Weather here has been -5 in am and 10 in afternoon, she works in the afternoon,so only thing that has changed in past week is the Lucas trans additive. I have a buddy who works at dodge and only works on trucks and vans and this is what I know

1) He has never heard of anyone adjusting the bands, they know how and why, they just do not do it.
2) DO NOT FLUSH THE TRANS!!!! As belts wear out the shavings in thetrans help belt traction, ok to drain fluid but not ok to flush.
3)Adjuster in trans-easy Adjuster on outside of trans- F*#@ Him
4) I don't use additives but when I do it's made by Lucas because it works!!!!
5) You must use Mopar ATF fluid-picky trans, buy it at wallly-mart $4.76 a quart

i dont know a lot about the newer trans. but on the older trans if you go stright from park to rev some will bang hard. it shouldnt do it. but if you take the lever and go stright from park to low it will fill the low/rev piston with 100 to 150 psi. then go to rev it shouldnt bang as hard. the reason some of them bang so hard going stright to revis that rev uses 300 psi. so thats a change of 300 at one time. if you take the lever to low, NOT drive. it loads the piston with 150 psi first. then when you go torev its only 150 psichange. 300-150=150
i got no problem with the additive you used. but i have alwas used reg rearend grease 2 qts. been doing it for years and years no trouble. but newer trans may be different. good luck may need to double check the low/rev band adj. again.

Hmmm is your buddy a newb?
I did a trans flush, band adjustment, new ATF+4 oil, and a filter awhile ago and I couldn't beleive the difference. No slipping into gear, no shudders, no problems. I don't really understand why you wouldntadjust yourbands when they can get sloppy.I alsohave never heard shavings in oil as being goodtraction, but what do I know. Must be a fluke for ya?Glad thingsworked out for ya
