helped out my buddy's girl get her bed out of her friends house cause she moved back home, long story on that. so her friends oversized, dumbass brother helps me load up dakota, no problems, suprised until i noticed the nice 3/4" gash in my paint... all he does is say " oops" and walks into his room and locks himself in there... despite the fact i want to light the kid's car on fire cause i did repeat " watch the paint" about 50 times... scratch looks like it went through the clear coat into the paint, no primer layer visable but you can feel a lip and notice its about a hair width wide.. im getting told i need a body shop for the repair, others are telling me i can buff the snot out of it and it will be fine. i will be the first one here to say i know squat about body work, i know the mechanics and electrical of trucks, cars, etc... whats your guys suggestions?... granted its a truck, should take a beating, but imo, if i do the damage il leave it, someone else does it, then its getting fixed, especially at their expense... thanks

i would say if you can get the kid to pay for it than have a body shop fix it especially if its too deep. my friend does body work and a told me a few scratch that i had on my jeep that i thought were buffable weren't. maybe if you could get up a pic of it we could help you out better. im sure it wouldn't cost to much and would be easy but you would really have to know what your doing to fix it right and the way im sure you want it.

I used to be **** about my truck too. but now I realize its a truck, so I use it as a truck now. and she has some pretty good battle scars to prove it too. you can buy the touch up paint and that works pretty good. or just try and buff as much out of it as possible.

If your deep enough to go through the paint it can't be buffed out. If you scratch the clear only, you can buff it out cause you will actually move the clear around and end filling the area back in with wax and clear coat from the surrounding area.

There is a guy in our area that does scratch and dent repair for all the dealers. He drives a goofy looking yellow and blue van. I'm not sure what the name of the company is. If you need that type of work, and see him at one of the dealers, you can pull in and he will look at it, and quote you a price. He'll even come to your house. He only does the small stuff suchas you have. He uses an air brush technique. I'm not sure how he handles the small dents. Supposedly his average price is $40. I know people who have used his services, and you can't see where he has repaired. I hope you "accidently" scratched the idiots car that got you. Revenge is sweet.

if it were me, id get him to pay to fix it and if that doesnt work id just use touch up paint. go to an actual auto pint dealer, it will match better than the stuff they sell at the parts store, then just fill in the scratch very carefully trying to keep the touch uppaint off of the good paint, then buff it real good with rubbing compound. if you are brave, and i am not, you can wet sand it with super fine sandpaper like at least a 600 or finergritto blend the touchup paint then wax it good.

yeah it sucks, just im trying to get her to last as long as possible, i know its a truck but i keep her as nice as i can, scratches add up over time. my dad's buddy said he can take a look at it for me, its only in the clear and maybe nicked some of the actual paint, tried some polishing wax yesterday and it seems like it took care of the whole noticable part of the scratch, but you can still feel the niche in the clear, hopefully this guy can do a nice ahrdcore buff on it. thanks for the replies guys

it may be just a truck...
but its MY truck gorrammit!
if I scratch it, it's my fault, but i don't stand for someone else to do it
even though it's getting a full one-off paint job soon enough....

i agree 100%, if i do it then fine, but if i tell you 50 times to be careful and you go ahead and wreck my stuff anyways. i'm going to kill you, lol or hit your fat head with my truck right in the mouth and make my own pretty dents and scratches with your face. my truck is my baby and i'm very protective of her. you get that *** to pay for everything, whatever you do to fix it. i'll back you on this one, not a problem.
