Default new guy cant figure out problem

well just want to start off by saying hello to everyone. I just bought a 2001 dakota sport. this is my sencond dakota but i wanted one with 4x4.

it is giving me a little trouble with engauging into 4wheel. when i turn the **** to shift into 4h or 4l sometimes the lights will just blink and go back to 2wd. the problem in intermitten but i would like to fix it. the service 4x4 light does not come on when this happens i have checked all the connectors and they seem to be in good shape.

to help it has the nv233 t-case shift on the fly.

I think i need to repalce the electronic engage mech. but just need some input from guys who know a little more than i, tried searching but have yet to find a clear awnser any help is appreciated.

welcome to DF...

I hear (no experience with it) that the module that actuator that engages the 4wd goes bad, that or the switch. yours sounds like the actuator. hopefully someone who's experienced it will chime in soon...

hey thanks for the replys.

I dont live were it snows much i travel up the mountain often but i dont think that would be it. when i am in wet weather it seems to work fine. im going to try a new actuator and see if it clears up the problem i have only had the truck for a couple of weeks so im still learning things about it.
