Default Question about Exhaust and Headers

I just purchased a 01 dodge dakota sport, 4.7L. It has 84K on it and was wondering if it is still worth it to purchase an exhaust system and headers. What do you guys think, thanks.

from what i have heard and read, you dont really get your moneys worth by doing all that. you can spend $400 plus on headers and then another $400 plus on exhaust and i dont feel that spending close to $1000 is worth the increases in power and or milage. you can do more for your money doing other things like a air intake, throttle body, chips, better plugs and wires, ignition system, and many other things...

If your mechanically inclined, Rockers, Cams, and Intakes will give you the best outcome. That is if you do it yourself, it's worth while other wise it costs a lot. If you do a cam, and intake at the same take it would be good to replace pushrods, lifters, and springs.

Here's my 2 penny worth.

Firstly, don't worry about the mileage, if well looked after, these motors should do at least double what you've got. It really depends how long you're gona keep the truck as to if you do the mods.
Everything I've read here says that the 4.7 headers are very good and can't really be improved upon unless you've got a blown motor so don't waste your money on them. On the other hand a good exhaust does give a small improvement, especially if you do the stuff on the intake as well (K+N, CAI, TPS mod etc) and best of all it makes a lovely noise! A programer also helps. Nothing on thier own makes a huge differance but when added together makes a nice improvement. The beauty of all of this is that you can do each bit as and when you can afford them. If you go the whole hog and do the cams as well (as I have), replace the lifters as they will have worn to match the old cams but there aren't any rockers or push-rods on the 4.7 and the springs will handle any road cams ok.

Enjoy!

Paul.
