98 Dak Manual Trans Problems
Got a 98 Dakota, V6, 2wd. Original trans blew a hole from inside out so I got a used one from a junkyard. After awhile found I'd have random occurences where it wouldn't want to go into gear from neutral - mostly from a stop. So come to a stop at a light or whatever with it in neutral, go to put in first - won't go - no grinding involved, just won't go in, won't go into 2nd, 3rd, etc. Sometimes giving a little gas and letting the clutch out a little would work. But what seems to work best is to shut off the engine and crank it back up, then it works. New clutch btw. Took it to the shop, they found the bushings around the shifter were worn out and replaced them. Things seemed better for about two weeks and then it started up again. Back to square one.
Ideas? Is the restarting just bumping the gears so they sync again? Is there any electrical connection involved on a manual trans?
