Default Exhaust System Needed For Long Bed...

So, I've been doing a lot of housekeeping on my truck and tonight, I just got done replacing my old OEM shocks with a set of Bilsteins. While I was under the truck, I noticed that my muffler has holes in it. In fact, I saw water dripping out of one of the holes in my muffler, so I think it's time to upgrade.

I've been looking all over the web and it doesn't seem like anyone makes a system for the extended cab, 2003 Dakota with the 78" bed. I've checked Borla, Edelbrock, Flowmaster, Banks and Gibson. Unless I'm just missing it, I don't see that anyone makes a kit for the long bed.

Does anyone know of a good Cat-back system that will fit on a 2003 extended cab with the 78" bed?

I have an 04 Dakota with a 6.5 bed which in turn is 78" long, and had no problem getting a cat back. Try Ebay for a flowmaster system that should fit with no problem. Magnum exhaust sells on there, or Madhattergurl. They are both very reputable. The kits are under $200, around $225 with shipping. Another option is a muffler shop. I got the Delta Flow 40 muffler because the interior sound is less than the original flowmaster 40 muffler, but the same outside. Magnum exhaust has a system on Ebay right now that includes all pipes and regular flowmaster 40 for $149.99 + 43.00 for shipping $192.99. The muffler upgrade I mentioned above is $20 more. A lot of people like the Magnaflow muffler more. He has a Magnaflow stainless muffler cat back system offer with stainless tips that includes aluminized pipes. The tips have to be welded on, but the rest of the system is clamps. It is listed for $194.99 plus $45.00 shipping, =$239.99. When ordering you just give him the specifics of your truck, extended cab with 6 1/2' bed, "or 78 inches".

if you dont wanna go back to a stocker exhaust i have a flowmaster 40 series muffler on my 4.7 and i love it... very throaty and aggressive. if you cant find a system to fit your bed size you can always get custom piping done i got my system custom fit so the dual exhaust went around my spare tire instead of removing the tire for just a shade under $450

There is no long bed on 2nd gen dakotas. You have a standard bed which is 6.5 ft or 78in. The short bed is only on the quad cab but is the same length frame as the club cab.

Okay, so the frame length is the same as the quad cab with the short bed, if I understand you correctly. So, by that logic, any of the Extended cab, short bed kits should work?

I like that answer...

Now that we've got that squared away, what kit do you guys think is the best overall? I'd like something that sounds nice but won't let every cop within 5 miles know that I'm coming.

If it gives me a few extra HP, that would be nice too...

id go with a custom set up from a local shop. i would recommend a hooker aerochamber! not a lot of people have them but let me tell you it sounds amazing. probably about the same loudness of a delta flow 40 series flowmaster. i got the aerochamber and too tips for 135 welded in dual outs for 200 bucks. you can see straight through the muffler too so it flows well whatever you do dont get a flowmaster if your looking for a few extra hp even though almost anything isn't going to give you to much anythings better than a chambered muffler.

I'll give the aerochamber a look!

My buddy was trying to get me to look at Gibson but I went to the website and listened to the sample and it sounded terrible. It sounded like it does stock when you step on the gas, but when you let off, it growls louder than it does when you step on it...

I wasn't a huge fan... [sm=signs006.gif]

i dont think so because on there site they have 49 state then a section for california. it doesnt have a direct replacement for the 4.7 but mine was a universal one so im sure if you found a universal california one it would work. here is a link to summit that i tryed to narrow down as much as i could the california ones are $200+ http://store.summitracing.com/egnsea...115+4294791974
