Default Brake line

Hey all first i just want to say i'm new so take it easy on me please.

Second is more of a comment/story. I have a 99 dakota sport 2wd and the other day i was driving home from work and I go to hit the brakes to get off at my exit and the pedel just drops to the floor and i don't slow down even a little bit. So after cutting a guy off to get back on the highway so i didn't hit the barrier of the off ramp i get on the shoulder and just coast to a stop. I check the resivoir and its empty. i had some fluid in my truck so i top it off and limped home the rest of the way. I get it home and check the resivoir and it's empty again. Turned out the main brake line running the the back of my truck had rusted through and i had a large hole in my brake line. fixed it my self and bled the lines and it works fine now.

Anyways thats my story. my question is Has anybody else had there brake line rust though and 2 does anybody know a way i can stop it from happing again. any input would be great cuz i was lucky this time.

Dean
