Default Y-pipe solution

I got to thinking about a way to replace the restrictive y-pipe and i wanted to see what you guys thought. I was thinking run a pipe from each manifold into a 2 in one out hi flow cat. I didn't like the way they put my cat is so i was gonna replace it with this type of set up. Just wondering what your thoughts were on this. Heres a pic of the cat i found.

I'm lookin at doin the same thing...I keep gettin a code for cat. efficiency below threshhold whatever whatever...I was goin to braze a system together, jegs sells universal y-pipes w/ a high flow cat, either way,I think It'll be a project/tough to do yourself, but much cheaper than to havea shop do it. You'll need toadd weld-onO2 sensor bungs, extend the sensor harnesses...etc.,I wouldn't trust any shop around here to do that kind of work the way I'd want it done! The bends of the factory y-pipe just look soooo restrictive!

I don't know if that would be much of a better solution,

youd have to have it pretty much below the cab or spend money on a dual system almost, also, you won't be able to the accurate gases present before the cat... If want to fix a y pipe to a x or H pipe, and do a true dual i think that is a dumb idea, those things heat up pretty good so it's best to keep them under the box.

that is the factory design
of the 1993-1995
"light duty" Z in VIN number
Magnum 5.9 V8s catalytic converter in Rams

they changed the catalytic con design in later model years

the heavy duty Magnum 5.9V8s
had dual catalytic converters
and less back pressure
and made max torque at 2800 rpm
rather than at 3200 rpm like the light duty 5.9V8

Why not just have a lrger Y pipe made of 2.5" from a shop with a better merge area, and just keep a 3" high flow cat. That should not cost much, and that 2 into 1 cat is probably prety expensive.
