Chris1974: what is your tire size?
yyyyy.jpg
Chris, what are the tires you have on here? And are those wheels 16x8?
I just bought some of the 15x8 wheels that came on Dakotas and Durangos (the "hollow" 5-spoke wheels, whatever they were called), and will be removing the body lift from my truck. I'm considering 255/70R15 tires (29" tall), but may go with 275/60R15 (28" tall). What's on yours, and is yours at the stock height? The tires look good on it.
Thanks.
Edit: anyone interested in buying my 3" body lift? It would come with the longer bolts, the lift blocks, the radiator fan shroud brackets that the P.O. fabbed up, the steering linkage extender, the fuel filler neck extender (maybe), and the front bumper brackets. The rear bumper did not need brackets to be raised. If anyone is interested, let me know.

They are 65R 16's. Stock truck height. I appreciate the compliment. Actually, I am thinking about going with a bigger wheel and lower profile tire when I get the money. Maybe 19's???? IDK. They are the stock tires size and rims (as far as I know) that were on the truck when I bought it.
Thanks again.....
Thanks again.....
jasona if your truck is a 4x4 i wouldn't put anything smaller on it than 30's. can't really tell from your sig pick but if you get rid of the lift and its sitting at stock 4x4 height it can still fit 31's. im sure you know this but im just saying. i think 29's would look really small and 28's would be even worse.
Mine is a 2WD, and don't like the body lift. Functionally, it's 100%, and the previous owner did a nice job with it. From a ways away, it looks like a 4x4. But I'm not into pretending, and working on this thing is a PITA with the body lift. The fenders and radiator are lifted...but the engine isn't. Harder to get to everything. The tires are over 4" taller than stock, which proves a 2" lift right there. And the body is lifted 3". So from where you sit in the seat, and from how you stand against the fender (like to reach over, while changing the oil), the truck is lifted 5". I'd just rather it be back to stock.
The suspension wasn't designed for these tires that weigh close to 50 pounds. The suspension arms are different between 4x4 and 4x2, and the springs obviously have a different rate. The shocks for a 2WD model aren't valved to cope with the weight of these tires. I'll save about 10-15 pounds on each corner with different tires. That's HUGE from a ride/handling standpoint. The factory plays around with different materials (aluminum) just to shave 1 or 2 pounds at a corner.
I'm getting 14-16 MPG on my commute with the 32" BFG AT tires, but hope I can get 16-18 with "normal" size tires. My truck came with 215/75R15 (27.7"), and I know I don't want those (too small for me). 2WD truckswere available through the 2nd gen run (as far as I can tell) with the following sizes (and their nominal diameters):
215/75R15 (27.7")
235/75R15 (28.9")
245/70R16 (29.5") <-- this is according to Tire Rack, for an '04 2WD, but I think that's really a 4WD size
255/65R15 (28.1")
255/65R16 (29.1")
255/55R17 (28.0") <-- R/T models
A co-worker has a '00 Club Cab with the same 15x8 wheels that I just bought, and stock 255/65R15 tires. I think they took a touch under-sized (diameter too small, 28.1"). Chris1974's truck looks real nice, and it's got 255/65R16, or 29.1",tires. The 255/70R15 tires I'm thinking about are also 29.1" in diameter. I saw a 2WD Club Cab at Wal-Mart yesterday with 275/60R15s (same 15x8 wheels), and those are 28" tall, but the truck was also lowered a bit. It looked nice. But at stock height, I think they'll be too small in diameter.
I agree that a tire any smaller than 30" wouldn't look good on a 4x4 truck. Mine's a 2WD with 3.55:1 gears, and originally, 27.7" tall tires. The previous owner put on 32" tires, so my effective gear ratio is about 3.00:1, compared with stock. It still moves out nice, but the tall tires aren't my style. They're really high-quality tires (and almost brand new), but I want street tires for this truck. If it were a 4x4, and I wanted to go into the woods, it'd be different.
