I have a coolant leak on my 1999 5.2L dakota which is leaking around the tranny dust cover and oil pan. I noticed it was leaking in the front around block since I could see coolant. I took it into the dealer to have them pressure test it to find the leak. They were sure it was in the front. They replaced the Timing cover gasket, water pump and gasket, front crank seal.

Drove it home and by morning there was a small puddle on garage floor. I no longer see the coolant trail in the front around the drivers side block, but it is definitely dripping from the tranny dust cover around the oil pan drain plug.

Does anyone know where it is coming from? I can't pinpoint the location since there is a bracket in the way and I am no mechanic.

I'll have to take it back to the dealer, but I would like to have some sort of idea as to what is causing the leak, so I don't end up getting talked into replacing everything in the rear of the engine, frost plugs, intake, etc.......and spending major $$$$$$$$$$$$ in labor because they have to take out the tranny to replace the frost plugs and it ends up being a hose.

Any suggestions or advice is welcome.

It sounds like the dealership didnt do their job. I would be willing to bet if you took it back they could work something out with you since it didn't get fixed the first time the way it should have been. I wouldn't think it would be a hose, but it sounds like either a freeze plug or an intake gasket leak.

 

I'm thinking it's probably an intake manifold leak. I agree -- take it back and work something out with them. They didn't properly fix the problem the first time.
