Default Possible Dakota Newbie

This is my first post. I've never owned a Dodge truck and would like a little advice. I've always liked the Dakotas and am now in the market for one. A guy has one for sale locally. It's a 2002 4 Door with 67k 2WD 4.7L. It appears to be in very good shape and well maintained. Is there anything in particular with this year model I should look at? It runs very good. What about Dodge Dakota Tranny's? I see on some automotive research sites most of the Dakotas get marked down in this area. This vehicle would mostly be a traveling vehicle. I have a 96 Cherokee that's my daily driver. I just need a little more power and room on trips.

well dodge was a little week in their trannys but jeep and dodge use the same tranny. so as long as it has been maintained it should be fine. but a shift kit wouldn't hurt.

Ball joints too. They like to go on this gen dakota. Replace them with moogs (i think that the one) and they will last quite a bit longer. I love my dak and if i find a 2wd thats in my price range i might get a 2nd for a project
