Default fast idel

I have a 2000 Dakota (middle size V8) that will occasionally idle around 1500 and move around there a bit then come down to its normal 6 or 700 then move around again. Usually at start up, but sometimes when warm. Any thoughts?

check for your throttle body linkage getting stuck open.. i think on the stock TB there should be a small screw to adjust how far the plates can be open on idle.

im not sure havent had my stock tb on for awhile.

that or one of your TB sensors are going out. More then likely just a sticky plate.. clean it up with some TB Cleaner make sure you take it off first, the TPS and IAC sensors can also cause this. The IAC Sensor can be cleaned but be very carefull with it, the TPS would have to be replaced if its bad. But before spending money just check that the linkage isnt getting stuck..

+2 on the sensors, and yes there is an adjustment screw on the tb for idle.
