Factory limited slip/or aftermarket
Can you tell me if the factory limited slips were good or not, my 97 dakota has open and my local salvage yard has a limited slip for sale that would bolt right in. Or should I buy an aftermarket. It is a daily driver and weekend toy.
Thanks
Thanks
i have had great luck with the factory trac loc. i would look at the cost involved, what does the junk yard want for the factory part. and how much for an after market part.
Junk yard wants $100. Powertrax is $350. With Powertrax I won't have to reset my carrier bearings. Have you had to rebuilt the factory unit, how many miles is on your truck?
Have you done gears before?(I haven't so thats not a criticism) Your going to have to set your backlash if you replace the whole unit along with the bearings, that gets more expensive if you have it installed. My factory limited slip went about 2,000 miles ago (80,000 mi) and I am replacing it with a powertrax no-slip. 2/3 of my install price was cut because of how much easier it is to install as oppose to a new lsd.
i have heard that the stock lsd with the 3.92 gears is crap and i had mine go out a few months ago 940 to get fixed not sure what he put in it but its not stock and i know the guy only uses quality parts definitaly check it out before you buy it.
i have the factory trac-loc in all my rigs ( 7 total ) some with 3.55 and some with 3.92 gears. i have an average of 150,000 miles on each. never had a problem, i must be lucky.
