My 04 got better with a K&N FIPK2 and a TB spacer. Try it out, my mileage went up about 4 miles per gallon more. How about 140 miles from full tank to 3/4 mark. I think that's pretty good for a 4.7L.

I have a 95 dakota with the 318 and 3.9 rear end , i am also currently running smaller tires, which would further lower my gear ratio. I usually get an average gas milage of 15-16 mpg, but with very short stop and go situations like dense city traffic i get like 13-14mpg. Howver iv taken a few trips across my state of pennsylvania, and all highway traveling @ about 75 mph i get a high of like 19-20 miles per gallon.

Although I do not have any of these on my truck, i have a few friends that will swear by the KN intakes increasing their mpg by a mile or two, also i've heard about doing the swap to the 180 degree thremastat helps as well.
hope this helps

I have a 2000 Dakota Quad cab with a 4.7 V-8 and 3.92 gear ratio 4x4..I get horrible fuel economy with mine..Im doing about 11mpg in the city and about 16 on the freeway at 70mph..

Wished I could muster up about 14 in the city and 18 on the highway?

Yeah it seems to me that all the 2000 Dak's with the 4.7 have crappy milage. I wonder if the stock 65mm tb has any difference in the fuel economy. I've heard of people switching to the 68mm but I dunno how much better milage they got or any. Im getting around 15 mpg now with city driving, hopefully the gas station i fill up at didnt swithc to their summer blend yet. I've still got my fingers crossed.

Yeah I know it's and old post and a long going debt but i had to update the boards....

I brought my truck down for it's scheduled 30,000 mile check up and they also did a tune up, oil change and an NYS inspection......well $528.00 later I picked up the truck. I've had the truck back for 4 weeks now and I'm getting 13.5 MPG/city... up from 10 mpg. and about 14.5/highway.

I just took a trip with my 04 Quad Cab 3.7 Automatic. round trip was over 1,700 miles and got between 18 - 20 MPG. I had added an upgraded dual/split exhaust and a K n N air filter. This was an improvement of about 2 MPG.

Good news to hear about driving at 60 with O/D off. I will try that since I normally set my crusie at 60 for most of my morning drive. However, I noticed on my recent long trip up and down mountains that when I was using cruise control, the transmission kept kicking back to lower gears and was wondering is there a Chip which controls the transmission speeds and can it be changed for a smoother drive?
