Default 04 Dakota

I have an 04 dakota quad cab with the 4.7,4 wheel drivethat is getting horrible fuel mileage. Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to fix this. It is getting 13 all the time, in town and on the highway.

add a cold air intake, it should put you to 15mpg. did you already replace your air filter? try higher octane gas or a recommended fuel additive to clean the fuel injectors for a tank or two.
If one of those don't help the o2 sensor may need replaced or the catalytic converter needs replaced.
I hate to go here but my co-worker adds acetone to his gas and he's claiming 21mpg on his v8. I cannot bring myself to try it but i think it works something like a STP fuel system cleaner.
driving habits not withstanding. (punching it, extended idling, A/C)

check out the gas mileage post still appearing on the front page below.

How about a good old fashion tune up. How many miles you got on that '04? Spark plugs may need changed. How heavy is your right foot?

lol.. CAI will not give him 2+ MPG thats extreme.. i wish my 200$ intake gave me an extra 2mpg.. it will help but no way that much. Maybe .5 a gallon... if lucky.

A say do a tune up, check air pressure, clean filter, clean injectors, and make sure your cats are ok, if you have over 50k on the truck i suggest new o2 sensors, but you also have to remember your in a truck with a v8 your mpg is never going to be that great.. Im happy mine is still in the double digits.. ive actually seen my truck get about 9mpg when i was racing all day. If i take it easy on the truck and baby it i can get about 12 or 13mpg on the highway if im lucky. I useally avg about 10-11.. lol..
