Default Which manual for my 99

Now that I have a garage and a paved driveway I'm going back to doing some of the work on my truck (maintenence etc...).
I was going to get a manual Chilton's or Haynes and the reviews on Amazon say the books aren't worth a @#$%.
There are plenty of factory books on ebay. For a guy with no diagnostic equipment is the factory manual the one to get or would I be wasting my time and $?

I have a Haynes, its OK but now that I have a Bentley for my BMW (best for euro cars, to my knowledge at least) I have something to compare it to. Its just not that informative, its not useless by any means. But its still not as complete as I would like. The Bentley gives me steps like I own a wrench but thats its in the packages still. Helpful for me with little experience under the hood it can leave things out. Like the little hints and tips to make things easier and to reduce headaches. People on the BMW forum Im on said to stay away from the Chilton but I had different options for that.
