Default im looking at buying a 98 dakota

i found this good looking 98 dodge dakota with a 318mag and 77,000miles for 5,900 there is some rust under the cab on the passengers side and some on the rear bumper. there is some dings and scratches on it but has been filled in with touch up paint. is this truck worth the money and did that year have any problems with the engine drive-train or anything else and what would the mpgs be thanks

see how it drives if it drives good it's all good, wouldn't be worried about rust and what not. You can get touch up paint and fix that yourself, and to be honest if it's a 4x4 thats the way it will be...

Yeah that sounds like a pretty nice truck jsut drive it too make sure it drives good. My truck has a bunch of rust under it from when i got it and just driving it around in normal PA conditions so I wouldn't worry to much about rust but make sure theres no really bad spots.

If it was me, I would keep shopping around.

I just bought a 2001 dakota SLT 89,000 mi., 4.7 V8. And this thing has a lot of bells and whistles on it too. Spray-in bedliner, 6-way electric drivers seat, Blaupunkt Stereo, Larger Side mirrors, Tow package (front and rear) (they towed it behind a motor home) 16" X 8" Wheels. Larger Battery (more amps) and the usual tilt, cruise etc, etc.

This truck is spotless. Couple dings and a few scratches. But NO rust anywhere.

I took it to my mechanic and he did a full check on it. The only thing he found was the rear brake cylinders need to be re-built and the rear transmission seal is just starting to leak. Him and I both agreed this was because the truck hadn't been driven much in the past year.

And I only paid $5500.00 and the lady had ALL of the maintenance records.

Keep looking. There are deals out there, just don't rush into anything.

Good luck and you'll find what you want if you shop around. Don't buy the first thing you see.

5900 with tax and title and I would buy that truck. 318's are hard to come by now a days and you wont have to worry about it like a 4.7. Most dakotas do have a little rust on the bumper and bottom of the doors, its not anything to worry about.

we guys i got it last thursday and love it but did find some things that the bed liner was hiding my guess was the guy had it overloaded and it broke the leaf spring bolts cause in the bed are big dents that are right above the end of the leafs (couldnt see it cause spare was in the way and couldnt look around it) but i think this is true(not just rust bolts) cause he has a brake controller in cab and there is rust starting on the wheel well bed liner was also hiding it but other than than that it is all good. my other dodge got 8-9mpg city and 11-12mpg highway this truck gets 14-16city and 17-18 highway

heres a pic of it

Got the exact same truck. 318 w/ auto and man. transfer case. The only thing that I don't care for is the gas mileage, but it's the same as my old Ranger 4 w/4.0l. And it's a better truck. Only problem I've had is a water pump replacement. X

http://www.por15.com/

my buddy bought a dodge cummins with 150,000 on the clock. rusted pretty nicely underneath the damn thing. he bought a gallon of por 15, only used half and coated EVERYTHING besides the engine, trans, and transfer case. this stuff should take care of your worries.
