I would just buy a rebuild kit. Replace everything that needs to be according to the kit and you should be good to go. Usually you can get extra plates with high performance bands help extend the lift, but to change plates you need to remove the tranny.

Hope that helps chris

Default From what I remember

From my wrenching days, you need to remove the tailstock, and then you need some specialized tools. The clutch pack should be held in with a snap ring, with springs on the bottom. You need a spring depressor to remove and re-install the clutch pack. This tool is specialised- used only for auto trans work. Doubt if you can borrow or rent one at the local Auto Zoneless.
Do not reuse any seals. Install all new seals. Use vaseline on the sealing surfaces and soak the new friction discs in the proper ATF for your application. Replace steel discs, because they are probably burnt.
This is not an easy job, by any means. The most important thing is to have EVERYTHING SPOTTLESSLY CLEAN.
Good luck
