Looking to buy a 2000 Dodge Dakota SLT 4x4
ORIGINAL: hoobasta4
bought from a very reputible used car dealer. Not from a certain brand. A place called L&L Motors. Believe me when I say this, in the city that I live in we have endless amounts of used car dealers and everyone that i've talked to has said only two of the approx 20 dealers (that I know of) are very reputible and this was one of the two. A lady owns it and is probably the nicest person, she kept it all real. Her husband actually is a manage at a dealership in a city about 20 miles away call Courtsey Motors (Dodge, Nissan dealer) and I believe they wanted to start their own small dealership in addition to him still working at Courtsey. I'm more than excited. I've been jumping arond all day! I'm picking it up tomorrow.
I wouldn't "bash" GM. lol before this I had a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am and loved it. I just needed a truck for my small business. I also had a 1995 Dodge Avenger before the 2001 Pontiac, and had only one problem when I had it, just an 02 sensor went out! No biggie, and sold that with 105,000 miles on it!
Thanks again.. now.. what mods do I do first? Should I get euros or a tonneau cover (hard or soft?)

The bank had to do some processing, and by the time they got all the paper work and stuff, they were just about to close (hence I couldn't get the check for the dealership). There was nothing that they had to do to it. They did a complete check of the truck when they got it in a week ago. Brand new tires and brakes, no problems whatsoever, etc. Didn't bother me because I had to leave to go coach a hockey game last night anyway (out fo town). Also, I needed to finish with my insurance. Question: when you purchase a vehicle and you go to the bank to get the check to give to the dealership, do you have to show proof of insurance to the bank? j/w. Also, when I bought my 2001 GA 2 years ago I had to wait 2 days before I got my car. Things had to process at the bank and they did a few last checks on the car. Anyway, i'm not to worried.

Yes, you do have to show proof of insurance if you get a loan for a vehicle, and it has to be full coverage. If you dont put insurance on THEIR vehicle by a certain amount of time; then they will issue their insurance, and trust me BANK INSURANCE IS NOT CHEAP! They will charge you up the wah-zoo. Some banks can also take your car if you dont get insurance, so be careful!
yep.. got the best of the best insurance (coverage wise anyway).
I know there is already a thread for this. I checked online to see if my truck had previously had been in for the recall work on the upper ball joints and it hasn't. I'm thinking that I'm starting to hear a "clunking" noise, but it could be paranoia. I usually hear it when I go up an incline (such as a driveway into a business, etc.) I printed off the saftey recall right off the daimler Chrysler site and it says something about the noise. So I'm gonna call the dodge dealership in town and schedule an appointment for next week or asap. It says that the fix takes about 2 hours (and depending upon their work load). Is this about right? In perfect conditions would it only take 2 hours? And will I have to worry about the NEW joints going out on me? Since I hear this clunking noise, does that mean it about to break? just a few more questions! Otherwise, in my first day that i've had the truck (keep in mind that I worked till 5) i've already put on almost 60 miles. Love the truck, just can't wait till I get to tow something, and can't wait for another decent snowfall to try out the 4x4!

Yeah, that clunking noise sounds about right. Thats what mine started to sound like. I was more like you in thinking it was paranoia, but after I took it in for the recall, it was gone, so I would not do any rough driving til you can get it in. The whole process should only take an hour. From what I was told by my dad when I told him it only took an hour to fix; he said that they probably greased it; because to replace 2 whole upper ball joints takes a few hours.

so you're saying that they only greased yours? Aren't they supposed to fix them both free of charge? lol Anyway, I'm gonna call over to the dodge dealer in town and see if I can get my truck in next week sometime.. the sooner the better tho.. I work 8-5 basically everyday so they could just do it while i'm workin. hey, did you notice the clunk noise on one side more than the other or no?

Some more advice for you. When you take it in to the dealer. Have them run your VIN through the computer for all TSB's and Recalls on the truck. Make sure it is current on all of them. Also, you never did answer the other person on the availability of a warrenty? When your at the dealer, ask them about purchasing a Chrysler EXt. Warrenty on the truck. You MIGHT be able to, and they are worth it. I have the Extended care on my Dakota, $100.00 deductible, but it covers almost everything and has been a life saver. Another thing to have checked on the front end is you sway bar, there is sort of known issue with the sway bar bushings wearing out. Some dealers will check it and repair it some have to be told to do it kicking and screaming.

yeah, I checked online to see what recalls were on my truck and the only one that came up on the diamerchryler website was the recall for the upper ball joints. Yeah, I will ask about buying the ext. warranty when I am there. Another thing, you were talking about the sway bar bushings wearing? are you saying that they'd fix it under the recall or is that extra labor and parts? j/w, either way it should be fixed. Okay, and now I'm just really paranoid that my wheel is gonna fall off because of the thing they showed on CBS and some of the stories of other people. I really don't want it to happen! So should I really worry about this? Of course I can't get the truck in until monday at the earliest. Any suggestions?
