Exclamation not starting

ok so heres the deal. i was out running some errons when i go to my last stop. wasnt even out of my truck 3 mins when i go to start it again and all i get is click..... thats it. so im thinking dead battery maybe alternator. try jumping it and it doesnt want to turn over. then finally it starts with me giving it some gas. but as soon as i take my foot off the gas it dies. anyone have any idea what it could be? im still thinking dead battery. cause i had the jumper cables hooked up for about 20 mins before it would even start. then when i was giving it gas my dome light and head lights where flickering like crazy. when it died i had no lights at all.

anyone with any suggestions?

i have no idea how old the battery is. i've had the truck for almost 2 yeart and never have changed it. looks pretty old.

for refference its a '98 dakota 2wd. 3.9L

could be your alternator is on the fritz, test the output of it with the engine running, talk a multimeter, place of on the batter, should read between 13.5 - 14.5 volts with the engine running...

could also be the battery check you cables where they hook on the battery then check the other ends of them, happened to me in my jeep the ground got rusty and would move around and it would only stay on when i kept my foot on the gas.

Well it is battery or Alternator, these trucks suck to get started with a dead battary.

Probably a bad battery. 3.9 is really sensitive to low voltage and will not run right at all if there is problems with the battery. Advance Auto Parts or Autozone can load test it for you to be sure. Mine did the same thing, just died all of a sudden with no prior problems. Lucky for me it died in the parking lot at Advance....

well turns out to be a dead battery. autozone charged it for an hour and then tested it to see how much it was putting out. well it was only putting out .34 volts lol. wouldnt even power a powerwheel.
