I have a 2001 dakota ext 4x4 with a 4.7. Recently the fan speed only works on high. everything works though when its on high. i have tried to swap it with another one but it has done the same thing. i have checked the fuses and none are burned out. any help would be great!

wow you went through the trouble of replacing the blower fan? wow kudos to you dude, but do a little research next time pal. common problem amongst the 2nd gen dakotas. the blower resistor is shot. its in the passenger footwell. $10-$20 part depending on your local dealer. the new blower resistor car is a redesigned unit. dodge knew there was a problem and didnt make anything of it to be considered an issue last i checked.

It's the blower motor resistor. You will find it screwed into the bottom side of the evaporator/HVAC housing. Look under the passenger's side of the dash, down and below the glove box and to your left of the blower motor housing. You will see it, a small rectangular part held in with 2 5/16" screws and an electrical plug connector on it. It helps to remove the heater floor duct first too but is a pain to get to the one screw for it near the firewall. Unplug the old and plug in the new and reinstall it. You have to cut the side tabs off the new one first to get the proper flush fit. The fan should be working great after that.

This has been reported to be a fairly common problem on Dakota's. One word of advice, get the replacement part from the dealer. It should only cost between 12 or 13 bucks and at the most 20 bucks. Dodge recently did a redesign of the resistor packs and built the new ones with much better and longer lasting parts. You'll see when you get the old one out and compare. Dodge sold all its old stock to Napa, which is selling the old design for about the same price as the new one from the dealership.
